Cooperation Projects
2000
asde implements a project selection process in order to identify the type of
projects in terms of sectoral focus, such as housing, community
infraestructure, water and sanitation, environment and rural integrated
development.
Project
proposals are also analysed in terms of process focus, such as gender,
documentation and information, training, construction and finance.
Each submitted project has a review sheet covering the main
characteristics of the proposal. After processing the information,
the projects department recommends the project proposal for the next stage,
which is a project planning workshop in situ. After this workshop
has taken place, the proposal goes through a search for financing before
different European and international financing agencies.
The
project proposals selection is carried out once a year.

the year 2000 we have selected the following project proposals (over one

SUMMARY
The
operation will contribute to improved food security and poverty
reduction in Central and Western Kenya through increased adoption of
organic crop protection measures. Field schools will be established
through which farmers will evaluate, apply and reap the benefits of
cheap, locally available, and environmentally benign techniques.
OBJECTIVE
increase the quantity, quality and profitability of food
production amongst smallholder farmers in Central and Western Kenya
through accelerated adoption of validated organic pest control measures. |
RESULTS
A.
“Best bet” organic pest control methods documented and validated in
a participatory manner.
B.
Information on effective organic methods taken up and put into practice
by farmers and other stakeholders.

Benefits of organic methods evaluated and acknowledged by farmers.

SUMMARY
The
project aims at managing and reviving public spaces as gathering and
social integration spaces for the cittzens. This will foster a
life quality and a fertile social interaction between people and
communities, particularly the poorest.
OBJECTIVE
To
improve the quality of public spaces and foster their physical and
social sustainability in 15 poor areas of Metropolitan Region V of
Chile, through a participative management strategy.

A. Public spaces selected, designed and built in a participatory way.
B. Citizen participation has increased, and the social heritage of
communities has been preserved.
C. Ability to propose and manage public spaces by the local
beneficiaries has been developed.
D. The project has contributed to the application and improvement of
participatory urban public policies.

SUMMARY
This
project consists of implementing productive agro-ecosystems in order to
contribute economically and estrategically to improving the shelter
infraestructure. All this achieved in a financial and social
sustainable way.
OBJECTIVE
To
improve productive agro-ecosystems and shelter infraestructure of peri
urban and peasant families of Masaya through implementation of a
sustainable revolving fund.

RESULTS
A. The project has contributed to an integrated and sustainable
management of small farms and to improve the environment in peri urban
areas of Masaya.
B. Agricultural productivity, food security and value added of small
farmer families have improved.
C. Shelter conditions and infraestructure have improved.
D. The savings and loan system and the revolving fund have been
implemented and are operating in a sustainable way.
E. Communities have developed their abilities and have strengthen their
capacities and association willingness.

SUMMARY
This
is a binational project which will significantly contribute to lessen
the existing high shelter demand in the region through the application
of financial innovations. The final aim being the transformation
of a revolving loan fund into an international guarantee fund.
OBJECTIVE
The
project aims at facilitating low-income families access to decent
shelter through a joint implementation of a revolving loan fund and a
participatory community management.

RESULTS
A. Sustainable revolving fund created and in operation.
B. Participatory community management has been strengthen through public-spirited
savings and loan systems.
C. Key sectors (political, financiacil, technical and social) are now
aware so as to promote improvement of housing policies.
D. All participants involved are informed and trained in technical,
financial and social issues.
E. Shelter built with satisfactory levels of quality and safety.
